BMI Post 40

WHAT BMI POST 40 DOES:

            Post 40 donates over $24,000 per year to support National, State and Local programs.Plus participates in Henderson parades and help with the needs of the community.

The National programs include:

  • Legacy Fund -- As an unfortunate consequence of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the global war on terror, many children of our active-duty military personnel are now members of single-parent families. The Legacy Fund raise monies to ensure that higher education will be a reality for these families. The Legion is actively working to ensure that all those children who want a post-secondary education will be provided one.

 

The State Programs Include:

  • Boys State -- At Boys State / Nation, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments.
  • Girls State – The same program as Boys State
  • Hear Today Learn Tomorrow -- A Program Designed to Help Nevada's Children with Hearing Impairments obtain Hearing Aids

 

Local Programs Include:

  • Legion Baseball -- American Legion Baseball enjoys a reputation as one of the most successful and tradition-rich amateur athletic leagues. Post 40 contributes over $3,000 a year in support of various Las Vegas/Henderson high schools summer teams.

  • Oratorical Contest -- The Oratorical Contest presents participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation's laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship. Post 40 contributes financially to District 2 where a qualification contest for our local students inwhich they receive cash rewards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes.

  • School Award ProgramPost 40 sends Post Members to our local schools to give recognition through the award of American Legion School Award Medals to a boy and a girl who are deemed most worthy of the high qualities of citizenship and of true Americanism.

  • Henderson Military Recognition Banner Program – Banners of our Service men and women displayed along Water Street honoring our current service personnel.

  • The Nevada Veterans Assistance League, --- (NVAL) was established to meet the ongoing needs of America’s heroes who reside at the Nevada State Veterans Home (NSVH.) Gifts to NVAL ensure a sense of security, happiness, dignity, independence, and usefulness for residents. 

  • Donations to Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery – Post 40 supports in both presence and financially support for Memorial Day Flags and Christmas Wreaths from Wreaths Across America

  • Local Emergency Fund for financial short term assistance to veterans in need.

  • Donations to support worthy causes as approved by our members

Offer our meeting hall to various groups and for special events (Celebration of Life Ceremonies) at no charge

  • Veteran and Family members a location for a “Celebration of Life Ceremony”
